Thoroughbred Racing & Breeding
Bill & Terry Mathis manage Mathis Stables, a very successful thoroughbred racing and breeding operation. Their 2012 September Keeneland yearling purchase, My Miss Sophia, won the Gazelle Stakes G2, and placed 2nd in the 2014 Longines Kentucky Oaks G1. Mathis Stables sold her in November 2014 for $2,150,000.00 as a racing/broodmare prospect. Lira, also a September yearling purchase, was a multiple stakes winner and sold for $950,000.00 as a racing/broodmare. Their farm bred, Benefactor sold at the OBS sale for $425,000. Ivy Bell, winner of the Inside Information Stakes G2, was a December 2017 purchase, and they sold in April 2018 controlling interest to China horse Club.
“Working together, we put many hours into the business to make it as successful as possible” said Bill Mathis. “We’ve found something we really enjoy working on, and seem to never get enough of it” said Terry Mathis. Our primary trainer, Todd Pletcher has been terrific to work with, and has contributed to our education along the way. Also, Bradley Weisbord, and the entire BSW team, have been very instrumental in our success.
